This is Sue. An amazing woman whom I love dearly. When I asked her to help me with this challenge, she was hesitant at first. She doesn't like pictures of her, and me taking this was a push outside of her comfort zone. It was a push outside of mine as well, portraits aren't my favorite thing to do. I knew as soon as I got the message from my challenger that Sue would be my subject and I knew exactly where and how I was going to set her up. I decided in the chapel at church. It has beautiful soft lighting, and the black and white added emotion.
When I asked her to do this, I asked that she just stare into the camera. Don't smile. Don't force anything. Just think hard. I believe it turned out rather well.
Thank you, Sue, and thank you to my challenger! You gave me a good challenge and I had a great time setting it all up.

For one of my AS Level projects, the title was "Image and Text" where we had to produce two final pieces, one of which was a commercial advert and one which raised an issue of our choice.
This was one of the images, which I used to raise awareness for the issue that is Domestic Abuse. This, along with the previous image, is supposed to reveal only subtle messages about she really is feeling. Non-Verbal Communication plays a large part in these types of relationships, and people often hide themselves behind their every day life through the words they say, but their true feelings often come out through body language, in this case, the micro-expression on her face. A seemingly normal meal is transformed into a message of her absolute pain and despair that she is feeling constantly and also presents the idea that it will always be running through her mind.
For the final presentation, this image will be presented A5 along with the previous image next to the larger image printed out A5 size in order to support the other aspects of domestic violence.
