It seems the larger SUVs can get trapped in the water in the wadis. As SO pointed out, the back wheels, even with 4WD engaged, were clearly not getting a purchase on the loose pebbles. The men tried pushing from the back and pulling from the front, and in the end it was a smaller Jeep with a tow rope that managed to help this larger vehicle out of the wadi.
