Sri Radha-Raman manifestation - Janmashtami in Vrindavan/India on Flickriver
The Deity of Sri Radha-Raman was manifested from one of Gopala Bhatta Gosvami?s shalagram-shilas (Damodara), on the full moon day (Purnima), 15th day of the month of Vaishaka (April-May) in 1542.

Each year the manifestation is being celebrated. The deity Radha-Raman is bathed in panchamrita with over 1000 litres of milk and other auspicious items as honey, tea and good water.

Inside the ISKCON Krsna Balarama Mandir in Vrindavan women are preparing offerings for the celebration of Janmashtami on 2nd September 2010, the birth of Lord Krishna equivalent to Christmas for the Christians.
In most temples, the Janmashtami celebrations start before dawn and go past midnight, the exact moment of the anniversary of Krishna?s birth ? the moment everyone has been waiting for. Devotees sing prayers as a feast of 108 dishes is offered to Krishna for His birthday. Then all the devotees share the birthday feast.

By my son. He tied this in to the Greek and Roman studies and the constellations by claiming it had to do with space, too.
