It was such a pleasure to sit in the front yard watching the grosbeaks drink and take a splash bath, this female looked pretty happy.
These birds have been observed eating 96 sunflower seeds in five minutes. I just learned this fact and it doesn't surprise me at all. While I sat watching the bird bath all I could hear was the cracking of sunflower seed shells. I had no idea how loud it would be to hear 20 birds cracking them non-stop.
