Once we'd filled the back garden and most of the front garden, we needed somewhere else to plant up. This strip, and the bit outside the fence, were just full of weeds. There's virtually no soil, with concrete just a few inches down, so not ideal growing conditions. But we put in plants that would cope with these conditions and we're rather pleased with the results. We especially like the clashing orange and pink colours.
Some of the plants, such as the berberis and the kniphofia are self seeded.

Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus)
Taken at the Lion Country Safari Animal Park just outside of West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Lion Country Safari was so cool. It is one of the largest drive through parks in the U.S. covering 4 miles and has over 900 animals. You literally drive past completely uncaged rhinos, water buffalo, giraffes (and of course these guys) with nothing between you but the windows of the car. We actually got stopped by these as well as a rhino, an ostrich and a water buffalo in the two trips through the park. It was quite a thrilling experience!

Spotted this van going down I-4 in Orlando. Wow is all I have to say about that. There were many people slowing down to get a good look. I wasn't the only one getting a picture either. So we can't put up profanity on our bumper stickers, but hey we can threaten to shoot you, go figure FLORIDA. My husband got right up on there ass and when we passed their was someone already on thier tail again. We watched as several cars repeated the same, everyone of them just shaking their heads.

Today is the twentieth anniversary of my 18th Birthday and God do I feel old!
Anyway, I don't normally do self-portraits - in fact I think this is probably the first "proper" one I've done where I've not been meddling with it in Photo Booth!
So this wasn't the shot of the day - it was the set-up shot for the shot of the day. Even so I quite liked it (even though there was no cake in it!)
